Catalytic Thermal Oxidizers (CTO) are an efficient solution for destroying volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) in industrial exhaust streams with relatively consistent process conditions.

CTOs utilize a precious-metal catalyst bed that allows oxidation to occur at much lower temperatures compared to traditional thermal oxidizers — typically between 700°F and 900°F (370°C to 480°C). This results in significantly lower fuel consumption, often delivering 40% to 60% fuel savings while maintaining high destruction efficiency.

How a Catalytic Thermal Oxidizer Works

In a CTO system, the contaminated air passes through a catalyst bed where a chemical reaction breaks down the VOCs and HAPs into harmless carbon dioxide and water vapor. Because the catalyst lowers the required reaction temperature, the system requires far less supplemental fuel than a conventional thermal oxidizer.
